Press Release - September 23 2005 - OC Transportation VigilVanguard
September 23 2005 - Vigil Systems supplies Orange County Transportation Authority with VigilVanguard
Market-leading training solutions provider, Vigil Systems, recently supplied Orange County Transportation Authority with the advanced VigilVanguard on-road driver training and assessment system.
According to the American Public Transportation Association, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is the nation's best large transportation system, which includes a fast-growing bus system that serves more than 68 million passengers annually. With its customer commitment to provide a safe, timely, reliable and professional service, OCTA is one step further in delivering this through the use of on-road bus operator training technology developed by Vigil Systems.
Following the user success of VigilVanguard in other US transit properties, including LA Metro, OCTA decided to adopt the system as part of its dedication to bus operator training excellence. VigilVanguard will be used for bus operator re-training across all three bus divisions of OCTA. Supervisor of training, Mark Andrews explains that the video playback of driving events using VigilVanguard is invaluable. “The VigilVanguard system will be an important part of our re-training program for experienced operators and behind-the-wheel training for new operators.” The VigilVanguard system will allow operators to evaluate each other and compare on-road performance for group based training.
Vigil Systems’ CEO, Ian Haynes explained “We’ve had a significant amount of interest for our unique training system, not only in California, but across the US as transit properties are looking for ways to increase driver safety. Brisbane Transport, our local Australian customer, has experienced a 20% reduction in at-fault accidents by using our system as part of a one day refresher program for experienced operators. Just imagine the savings in liability and damage costs by using the system to train every driver in a transit property.”
VigilVanguard training systems are being adopted by transit properties across the US and Canada, as well as Asia and Australia, where the system was originally developed. VigilVanguard is an advanced system that is used to train and assess professional drivers on-the-road instead of in a classroom or simulated environment. The systems instant performance feedback and advanced driver report capabilities allow transit properties to objectively assess driver competency and keep accurate training records on individual operator performance.
